Smoby Cotoons Baby Roul (+12M)

smoby-cotoons1 Cotoons is a widely popular cartoon targeted at baby and 1-3 year old audience. It is simple, colorful, has four big characters and provides some interesting glimpses of real world… Youngsters love to watch it. So it is no surprise that Smoby bought the Cotoons license for toys, and consequently in the last three years introduced many interesting toys to the market. It is unknown whether Cotoons creators cooperate in design/ideas of toy creation, but I would say Cotoons toys are different from others on the market.

Basically the Cotoons collection of baby toys targets only baby audience. Offerings include table tops, chewing rattles, soft toys, soft toys with mirrors… I recently bought a inflatable transparent cylinder that has many inside levels separated with thin foil. There are some holes in these levels, and five rattling balls inside. The goal of the toy is to hold cylinder and move it around in a way that allows all the balls to come from top level to the bottom. This is difficult for young ones, as it takes some coordination, moving the cylinder in slow, controlled moves so that all balls go thru holes…

BOX - Click to Enlarge From what I noticed with my youngest daughter (1 year old), this toy is interesting at start, but not for moving the balls from one side to another, but only to shuffle it, throw it around (it makes nice sound, and as it is soft it makes no damage, so daddy is not yelling at you) and crawl over it (which is especially fun if there are many pillows around, so that there is no boom at misstep). She played with toy from few minutes to 10 min max, but it helped if I was around and cheer!

For a bit older babies (18 months) the movement of balls is still not interesting (still too complicated), and since they can now walk with no problem, Baby Roul comes in handy for ball substitute, so for kicking around apartment… But it is an action worth just few minutes of baby’s time, so do not expect it to be interesting for more than 3 min at the time.

Hide'n'Squeak Eggs by Tomy

After months of planing and thinking things over, I just decided to start without big welcome speaches and high profile words… This is a simple site where I will publish my thoughts and reviews of baby toys (age infancy to 3 or so years). I decided to do that as we wasted good money on toys that our children never played with, or played just once and that was it. Although the toy selection and success might look subjective, I noticed with by watching all the visitors and their kids, that some toys are just not interested, while others are hot and kids love to play with them over and over again.

We will start our reviews with nice and simple toy from Tomy. I made this video almost half a year ago, when my daughters were 10 months and 3 years. Tomy declared this toy for age 12 months and older. My daughters played with it extensively, especially the youngest one, who found the squeaking eggs interesting for biting, throwing around and collecting them afterwards… My oldest is old enough to match face smilies / colors on eggs and their shells, and to set them in box in right order (at the bottom of every egg there is different shape - that matches one in box - and it only goes in that place in box).

I would rate this toy as a very good buy, primary because it is very cheap (around 15 USD/10 EUR), and very robust. All parts are large enough that they can not fit in mouth, so I rate it also very safe. Play time is good, especially if you hide it away when baby ignores it. Once you reintroduce the toy back after a few weeks, babies will treat it like new (very interesting).

Average play time for baby 6m-1y is around 5 minutes, and 5-10 minutes for older babies. While repeat play time value is decresing with older babies, younger babies find it amusing and interesting every time, and as they develop with time, they find new tricks and have more and more to play with this toy (matching shapes between egg and box, matching smilies between egg and shell)…

Toy is easy to clean, and tidy up. And baby can learn to make it when they finish playing…
